I Know What Those Numbers Are!!!!

After strolling from Good Burger yesterday (which was quite delicious, worth the price), I stumbled upon the bright yellow Union Square number once again, and I vowed that I'd find out what they were. So after long research I found out this:

"First the whole wall piece was a creation by artist team Kristin Jones and Andrew Ginzel, began installation February 7, 1999 which was called Metronome. Which was an innovative work consisting of three primary components. The entire work symbolizes the intangibility of time. The central component, measuring 100 feet high and 60 feet wide, is formed of an undulating brick wall emanating from the heart of the work - a dark circular void surrounded by gold leaf overlay that dissipates across the panel into gold fragments - like the rippling of water caused by a single stone, diminishing in frequency across the vertical plane. Below, a massive rock juts out through the undulating brick wall, grounding the work. To the left of the central component, on the glass façade, is a digital timepiece which counts the twenty-four hours of the day while simultaneously subtracting the time remaining in the day. To the right, is the lunar timepiece, composed of a sphere set into a socket, which is synchronized to revolve with the phases of the moon" (http://metronome.related.com/fact.htm)

BUT THE BIG NEWS IS WHATS WITH THE NUMBERS. Well the numbers as many speculated is in fact a clock. A clock that tells times of hours past midnight and time till midnight. So basically it works like this:
The 15 numbers of the digital clock display time going and coming relative to midnight. Read time going left to right and time coming in the opposite direction. So, if the clock reads 070437000235616 it means that it is 7:04 A.M. (7 hours and 04 minutes since midnight) and that there are 16 hours, 56 minutes and 23 seconds remaining until midnight. The three numbers in between are a blur of moving numbers.

SO THERE YOU GO!!!!!!
